Starting today, the resort town of Mamaia is hosting the “Mamaia” National Festival of Romanian Folk Song and Dance. After the first phase of the famous Mamaia festival featured pop music, authentic folk music will now take center stage for three evenings in Piațeta Perla,
The event is organized by the Constanța County Council and the “Teodor T. Burada” County Cultural Center, with support from the Mamaia Constanța Destination Management Organization (DMO), and promises to transform Mamaia into a hub of Romanian traditions.
“We invite tourists, residents of Constanța, and all lovers of folklore to join us for these exceptional evenings in Piațeta Perla. There will be high-quality performances featuring established artists and talented young performers, designed to bring tradition closer to the public. For three days, Mamaia becomes the capital of Romanian folklore and the place where vacation blends with the authentic emotion of folk song and dance,” said George Măndilă, president of OMD Mamaia Constanța.
The schedule for the three evenings:
Wednesday, August 27 – “Together Through Song”
The festival kicks off with the first evening of vocal and instrumental competitions. The theme of the evening celebrates cultural diversity through the participation of Romania’s ethnic communities: Armenian, Aromanian, Bulgarian, German, Greek, Hungarian, Romani, Lipovan Russian, Serbian, Tatar, Turkish, and Ukrainian. Alongside these ensembles, the children from “Vedeta Populară” will also take the stage. The atmosphere will be complemented by the Orchestra of the “Brâulețul” Professional Folk Ensemble.
Thursday, August 28 – “Songs of the Romanians”
Award-winning young performers will showcase the most famous Romanian folk hits. The audience will be invited to sing along with the artists, with the lyrics displayed on screens to create a moment of musical togetherness. The evening will feature live accompaniment by the “Brâulețul” Orchestra and will conclude with a special performance by Paula Seling.
Friday, August 29 – “Winners’ Gala” and “Legendary Names”
The final evening begins with an awards ceremony honoring the most talented contestants. Then, big names in Romanian folklore—Irina Loghin, Angela Buciu, Mioara Velicu, Gheorghe Turda, Elena Merișoreanu, Laura Lavric, and many others—will take the stage for a tribute performance. The festival will conclude with “Pop Folklorika,” a project that brings a spectacular mix of pop, jazz, and authentic folklore.
The event will be hosted by Iuliana Tudor and Aurelian Temișan and will be broadcast live on TVR 2, TVR Folclor, and TVRi.
Through its involvement, the Mamaia Constanța Tourist Destination supports and promotes traditional events and high-quality performances, transforming the resort into a leading cultural and tourist hub. Thus, Mamaia is not just about fun and a seaside vacation, but also about experiencing Romania’s authentic values, presented in a modern, accessible, and appealing way for all generations.
