In the first month of fall, Mamaia keeps up the momentum and continues to welcome tourists with major events. After a summer in which live music brought together thousands of tourists in the resort’s center every weekend, this weekend it’s the turn of tennis fans and electronic music lovers to enjoy a few days dedicated to them in Mamaia. With the support of the Constanța City Hall and the Mamaia-Constanța Tourism Development Organization, two major events are set to make waves this weekend: the Sunwaves Festival and the Davis Cup tennis matches between Romania and Taiwan.
The fun begins on Friday, September 15, on the beach in the northern part of the resort, where the 31st edition of Romania’s most popular electronic music event will take place. The Sunwaves Festival, which has become a tradition marking the start of the summer season for several years now, returns to Mamaia for a five-day party where the music won’t stop. This weekend’s edition is no exception; rather, it aims to establish the event’s new schedule, which will now take place at the beginning and end of every season in Mamaia. In the 16 years since its inception, the event has become a landmark for electronic music enthusiasts in Romania and abroad. The festival welcomes visitors with a true aesthetic and musical experience, innovative stage design, captivating visuals, and sets by today’s most prestigious DJs. 2,000 attendees are expected each day of the festival, and no fewer than 25% of them will be international tourists.
Also on Friday, in another part of the resort, at the Idu Tennis Club, the elite of Romanian tennis will gather for one of the most important events of the competitive season. The partnership between OMD Mamaia-Constanța and the Romanian Tennis Federation brings the competitive spirit and energy of top-level tennis to the heart of the resort. Team Romania will face Taiwan in the Davis Cup World Group I. The matches will take place over two days, Friday and Saturday, and the result will determine which team advances to the Davis Cup Finals qualifiers. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch the best Romanian tennis players, selected for this match, in action: Nicholas David Ionel (ATP 224), Filip Jianu (ATP 345), Marius Copil (ATP 314), Victor Cornea (ATP 70 in doubles), Cezar Creţu (ATP 370), Sebastian Gima (ATP 442), and Luca Preda (ATP 1,104).
“Year after year, September becomes livelier and livelier in Mamaia. The weather is on our side, and tourists have the opportunity to take advantage of the offers under the ‘Seaside for All’ program. What’s more, through these top-tier events, we’re managing to attract tourists with other interests to the resort as well. It has been a season in which Mamaia has presented an extremely varied range of both services and leisure activities. This is the spirit of the resort, and I am glad we are managing to strengthen it,” says George Măndilă, president of the Mamaia-Constanța Tourism Development Organization. This weekend, Mamaia reaffirms its position as a versatile destination. As a result, several thousand tourists are expected on the coast both for the two events and to enjoy the last days of summer weather. Most of the resort’s hotels and restaurants will remain open to tourists until the end of this month.
